Abstract
Takayasu's arteritis is a chronic inflammatory disease involving aorta and its major branches. Because main cause of death in Takayasu's arteritis is hypertension and related complication, it is important to control blood pressure in this
disorder.
We have recently experienced one case of Takayasu's arteritis associated with renovascular hypertension.
The patient was 26 year-old female who presented with exertional dyspnea and palpitation, Blood pressure was 260/40 mmHg in the left arm, 220/40 mmHg in the right, respectively. Systolic bruit was heard in abdomen but pulse was palpable equally
in
both
lower extremities. Plasma renin activity and renogram after captopril administration showed positive response. Aortogram revealed abdominal aorta stenosis and tubular narrowing of left main renal artery.
In addition to medical therapy, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty was performed, which was not successful due to tight ostial stenosis, Because blood pressure was not well controlled and patient's tolerance to captopril was poor, surgical
treatment
was recommended, and corticosteroid was given to suppress inflammatory activity.
